The Department of Commerce is the only non-science department in the
college. It started as a three-member faculty and the number has now
increased to nine. In the beginning when the course was started in the
college, we were forced to admit students at cut offs as low as 56%,
over time the quality of teaching has improved and now our cut offs
hover around 89%. The optional subjects offered by the department to its
third year students are much in line with the demand in the job market.
Since the last two years, the students of the Commerce department have
been provided opportunities for doing summer training in companies like
Metlife and Concord. The third year students of the department have got
good placements in companies like Titan and Metlife. The Department of
Commerce is also proud of what its students have been able to achieve in
their lives after leaving college. Some members of the alumni of this
department are holding responsible positions in reputed companies.
